Mark Johnson’s forty-plus years in ministry have seen him serve at all levels within the church. Despite his current position as union president, Johnson strongly believes, “To be a church pastor, caring for people is the highest calling one can have.” He adds, “We’ve spent close to 30 years in congregations – and that’s where the action is at.”

As president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Canada (SDACC), a position which he has held since 2010, Johnson represents the union on 28 boards and committees with the North American Division and General Conference. He serves as chairman on 22 committees within the SDACC, such as SDACC Board of Directors, ADRA Canada, It Is Written Canada, Burman University Executive Committee, and SDACC K-12 Education.

Despite the significant time spent in committees, Johnson’s focus is on building working relationships between various church entities. The union serves as a resource for local conference officers. And it looks after matters pertaining to higher education, legal issues of national interest, Canada-wide support of employees such as retirement and health benefits, to name a few.

Johnson and his wife, Becky, have three adult children and two grandchildren.
